After you finally take that last Invisalign aligner off, and your teeth are perfectly aligned, you need to adopt some precautionary methods to make sure they stay that way. Your dentist/orthodontist would advice using retainers in this regard.
Some people do not consider the use of retainers as a necessary measure after having their teeth aligned. As a result, some dental problems such as cross-bite and crowding may return over a period of time. For some people, it may take years and for some it may take only months.
Your teeth are susceptible to various kinds of deformation, and once you get them aligned, you need to make sure they do not lose their perfect form. After all, you put all that effort and went through all those Invisalign trays, you invested time and energy and finally got the teeth you always wanted, why not ensure that your efforts were not spent in vain?
There are two options when it comes to teeth retention. You can opt for metal retainers which are permanently placed in your mouth, and require the use of wires, metal, and of course needles. The second and highly recommended option is the use of Vivera retainers.
Vivera retainers are clear retainers made from the same thermoplastic technology as the Invisalign aligners. Only they are intended for use over a longer period of time and are therefore more durable. It doesn’t matter if you are overseas or out of town, the retainers can be crafted and delivered to you based on the impression of your mouth taken by the dentist.
However, we do recommend you visit your dentist/orthodontist from time to time, just to make sure that the retainers are working and that there are no issues with your dental health.
